On December 1 2012, Hunan RTVU held a competition for students majoring in pharmaceutics. The competition required the contestants to distinguish between different Chinese traditional medicines with their eyes covered. A total of 88 students from 6 branch schools competed in the contest, which was attended by Peng Simao, deputy president of Hunan RTVU.

During the competition, contestants were asked to identify 10 randomly chosen medicines in 2 minutes with their eyes covered. Using only their senses of touch and smell they were asked to identify the name, source, method of administration, and pharmacological uses of each medicine.

After 5 hours of intense competition, three students, including Shi Shuipeng, won the first prize; six students, including Guo Na, won the second prize; ten students, including Wu Yuan, won the third prize. In addition, Li Ronghui and two other tutors were given commendation as excellent tutors. The Pharmaceutical Branch School, Health Branch School, and Xiangtan Branch School were awarded the Organization Prize.
