In order to further improve the ideological and political education of students in adult education under the new normal and strive to advance the "Three Types of Education,” namely, education for all members of society, education with comprehensive procedures, and all-round education, on 30 May 2020, the Fujian branch held an opening ceremony for new students and launched the first lesson of the new semester for all students of open education in the Radio and TV University (RTVU) system in Fujian Province.
The opening ceremony for new students and the first lesson of the new semester for all students, the first of its kind uniting the provincial open education system, was carried out with the online and offline cooperation of all RTVUs in the province. The main venue was Fujian RTVU with other venues in 70 county or prefecture-level RTVUs and seven study centres connecting through two-way video to present live broadcast to teachers in the OUC system, as well as members of society. Nearly 2,000 people, including the leaders of Fujian RTVU, and leaders, teachers, and student representatives from local RTVUs in the province, attended the event in the main and branch venues. 15,620 new RTVU students were enrolled in spring 2020. Those who could not attend in person participated in the opening ceremony via live webcast. Over 10,000 students from across the province simultaneously gathered in the "cloud terminal" to attend the first lesson.
Wu Guorong, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of Fujian RTVU, delivered a welcome message to the new students on behalf of the university, and introduced the reform and development of the university in terms of its school running system, operating model and conditions, and public service functions. He said that Fujian RTVU will provide all-round teaching and learning support services for all students with brand new education concepts, good teachers, diversified teaching forms, and excellent teaching resources. He hopes that all of the new students will cherish the learning opportunities granted to them, strive to cultivate their independent learning ability , strictly abide by the rules and regulations, proactively take their due social responsibilities, and become excellent RTVU students.
Chen Xingyan, secretary of the Party Committee, gave the first lesson. He reviewed the history of the founding of the RTVUs and the development of the Fujian Branch, and introduced how the university has helped with the growth of young students and implemented the "Three Types of Education" concept. He expounded on three aspects, "Understanding ‘Chinese Governance' in the context of Containing COVID-19 and Strengthening National Confidence,” “Developing Fujian RTVU Alongside its Students and Strengthening Students’ Confidence in the University,” and “Focus on the Pursuit of Dreams and Strengthening Students’ Self-confidence,” in which he required all students to have unswerving beliefs, inherit and carry forward the university motto of "Self-improvement, Perseverance, Hard Working, and Self Cultivation,” be brave in taking on new responsibilities, work diligently, conscientiously involve themselves in the construction of new Fujian in the new era, and strive to contribute to the realisation of the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese people.
After the meeting, the freshmen from the main venue visited an exhibition on the university’s history and participated in patriotic and school-loving education. Local RTVUs also carried out enrolment education for freshmen based on to their respective situations.
