From 17-21 October, 2018, Gansu Radio & TV University (Gansu RTVU),entrusted by the Gansu Tourism Development Commission, held a training class on rural tourism and poverty alleviation through tourism in low-income counties across Gansu province.
The training aimed to implement the provincial government’s poverty-alleviation policy with a focus on promoting rural tourism. The class lasted five days and invited several industry experts. Wang Qiao, industry advisor for the National Rural Tourism Professionals Training Centre, and head of the China Rural Rejuvenation (Yuanjiacun) Research Project, gave a systematic introduction to how Yuanjiacun, a village in Shannxi province, developed its tourism industry based on the Xi’an market. Cui Ning, director of the Shanxi Tourism Design Institute, and a general planner, spoke on “Rural Tourism Planning and Construction”,sharing his experiences. In addition to group lessons, the training also brought learners to Yuanjiacun, as well as Lijiazhuang in Yunzhong county, Yuquanshanzhuang, and other places for field observations.
The training provided both a theoretical and practical understanding of rural tourism, with typical examples from both inside and outside the province, greatly expanding the horizons of the learners, and inspiring them.
