The result of the one-year photography competition "Living Life Through China Radio and TV Universities" was announced recently with 78 works winning prizes, including 47 works by students and 31 by faculty members. Six provincial radio and TV universities (RTVUs) in Changchun, Harbin, Anhui, Guangdong, and Gansu won prizes for the competition's organization.
The competition was an initiative run by the Open University of China (OUC) not only to present the colourful life of students, but also demonstrate the running of schools, promote the students' work with RTVU characteristics and create a better campus culture. From the launch of the competition in April 2009, provincial RTVUs across the country responded enthusiastically and actively encouraged their students and faculty members to participate. By 31 December 2009, the organising committee had received 11,482 works with 9,778 of them (3,713 by students and 6,065 by faculty members) approved. Among the 1,007 contestants, 664 were students and 343 faculty members, either from the OUC and its experimental schools, or from 42 provincial RTVUs, Bayi School of the OUC, and School of Tibet of the OUC. Students and faculty members from local RTVUs posted 38,273 comments on the competition website, where a total of 547,737 votes were placed. According to the vote and the judges' appraisal, prizes were awarded for 78 works, among which, 20 belonged to the category "student life", 21 to "student portraits", and 5 "campus landscape by students"; 30 of the winners were faculty members, and 2 were special award winners.
The prizes will be posted to the winners in different local RTVUs by the OUC and a special exhibition column on the website will be set up to display the winning works selected.
