The Department of Moral Education, Ministry of Education (MOE) recently announced the results of the excellent achievements for the 8th Colleges and Universities Campus Culture Construction, in which RTVU Village Library – Book Culture Site, recommended by Inner Mongolia Radio and TV University (RTVU), was awarded the excellent prize. The committee also announced other prizes including 10 special awards, 30 first prizes, 60 second prizes, and 106 excellent prizes.

Early in April 2015, Inner Mongolia RTVU began focusing on and engaging in preparation work for the review after it was notified about the review activity for excellent achievements for the 8th Colleges and Universities Campus Culture Construction by the MOE Department of Moral Education.

“RTVU Village Library” is an important and integral part of the “ Hand in Hand – Village Youth Reading Campaign”, which aims at donating fundamental reading materials such as books and computers for those village secondary and primary schools in urgent need of reading help in order to provide them with better reading resources and environments. According to the programme, the existing village school libraries might be remodeled or upgraded, or completely new reading rooms might be constructed. The libraries are supplied with around 1,000 – 5,000 books, bookshelves, computers, desks, chairs, DVD players, book management software, code scanners, posters, related usage & management regulations, and access to digital resources. Furthermore, each library is staffed with special personnel to help strictly implement the book lending and managing system.

To date, the campaign has already established 155 “RTVU Village Libraries” in 155 village secondary or primary schools located across 28 provinces (municipalities) nationwide, attracting over 3 million teachers, students, village youth, and villagers to participate in the reading activities.

The “Village Library”, founded by Inner Mongolia RTVU, is located in the rural grassland region, making a grass-root culture site for the farmers, especially village youth, providing them with the environments and conditions to read and use books. On April 15, 2015, Inner Mongolia RTVU established its first “Village RTVU Library” in Dakulian Secondary School in Xinghe county, Ulan Qab city. In addition, to benefit more farmers and herdsmen and offer them the pleasure of gaining knowledge through reading, Inner Mongolia RTVU deployed its advantages within the RTVU systems to search for other locations suitable for more “Village Libraries”. It set up another “Village RTVU Library” in the Alxa Right Banner Vocational Technology Education Centre. This site was also honored with an award for national “Demonstration Reading Site for Village Youth”.
