A “3D Guide Simulation Experiment & Training Room”, the first of its kind with an investment of a million yuan, was completed in Jiayuguan City of Gansu Province and was officially put into use recently in the Jiayuguan Branch of Gansu RTVU.  This has filled the gap of experiment and training teaching for tourism in Jiayuguan.

Students only have to sit in the Experiment & Training Room to “travel forty thousand kilometers per day in one place and watch a thousand rivers in the sky tour”. While studying, they can also “have free sightseeing” of the famous scenic spots around the country.

In recent years, the tourism industry of Jiayuguan City has been developing very fast. In order to enhance the training quality of non-degree education by the Jiayuguan Branch and to provide excellent talents for the tourism industry of Jiayuguan City, Gansu Provincial Department of Education invested RMB 1 million, along with 300,000 Yuan raised by the Jiayuguan Branch itself, to build the 3D Guide Simulation Experiment & Training Room, which was completed for use. 

The “3D Guide Simulation Experiment & Training Room”, also named “Multi-Channel Dome Projection System”, uses computerized VR technology to simulate 3D stereoscopic scenery from all kinds of scenic spots which are within arm’s reach and to create an immersive virtual simulation display environment. Teachers and students can use the platform software to open the 3D materials for the virtual scenic spots, preloaded in the computers, to carry out teaching about the scenic spots narration and scenic simulation guide explanation training, besides editing 3D lesson plans, blackboard writing editing, teaching management and external input management. Also they can play 3D films, pictures, PPT documents, audio and video files as they wish. In addition this software can be used in multi-function meetings such as video conferencing, academic reporting and technical seminars. 

The person in charge of the Jiayuguan Branch explained that the teaching mode of the Experiment & Training Room was new, interactive and efficient. It was not only conducive to promoting students’ guide explanation skills and service ability and realizing experiment and training teaching, skillful training and vocational skills assessment, but was also useful for simulation practice and training teaching in the specialties of mechanical engineering, auto repair and architecture in the open education of the Branch. It would play a positive role in improving students’ professional skills.
