Recently, relying on the learning outcomes accreditation management information system, Shenzhen Radio and TV University (Shenzhen RTVU) has finished the first learning outcomes accreditation for more than 200 students. For those students who have obtained the credit accreditation, Shenzhen RTVU will waive a certain amount of tuition, which means previous learning outcomes made by students can bring a big “profit” in the later stage.

Shenzhen RTVU began the research and practical exploration of a credit bank in 2011 and launched the trial recruitment using the concept of the credit bank in the autumn of 2012. It was approved as the one of the first branch centres of learning outcomes accreditation for continuing education of the Open University of China in July of 2013 and carried out the first learning outcomes accreditation in June of 2014.

Up to now, students registered in the credit bank of Shenzhen RTVU are categorized into two groups: vocational middle school students enrolling in open education specialisms and college graduates from Shenzhen Polytechnic and Shenzhen Institute of Information Technology enrolling as open education undergraduates. It has established more than 5,200 person-time learning accounts and has accelerated more than 3,200 pieces of learning outcomes. The degree and non-degree learning outcomes used for exchange this time have reached more than 600 respectively, which brought tangible benefits for the RTVU’s students to “deposit” old credits and “withdraw” high academic qualifications.

Vice President of Shenzhen RTVU Xinsheng Hu expressed the view that the credit bank is an efficient platform to promote longitudinal connection and lateral communication for all kinds of education. It is beneficial to realize the mutual recognition and connection of different types of learning outcomes, to build a flexible and open lifelong education system and to construct a pathway for lifelong learning. He noted that Shenzhen RTVU would continue to carry out credit bank work and do their utmost to make ladders for the progress of the students.
