Over the past few days, the 2014 Activity Week of Lifelong Learning for All, which has the theme “Lifelong Learning for All Creates a Colourful Life”, has been held in one place after another, with the Radio and Television Universities (RTVUs) in Tianjin, Shenyang, Changchun, Hunan Province, and more all sharing in the event. The various and colourful activities offered the citizens lots of benefits.

“Learning Stars of Common People” are telling their stories of learning on stage
On October 25, 2014, the 8th Tianjin Show Week of Community Education, as well as 2014 Tianjin Activity Week of Lifelong Learning for All, hosted by Tianjin Municipal Education Commission and held by Tianjin RTVU, was opened in Tianjin RTVU, aiming to vigorously promote the concept of lifelong learning, promote the lifelong learning style, and advance the construction of the lifelong learning system for all in Tianjin, a learning city. During the week, based on the Tianjin Lifelong Learning Network, an online lifelong learning forum for the citizens was held, the “Learning Stars of Common People” and “Lifelong Learning Activities Brand” shows were held, all with the goal of motivating citizens to participate in digital learning and move closer to the realization of “everyone is learning; everyone can learn anywhere; everyone can learn anytime”. All districts and counties of Tianjin carried out the appraisal and election activity of lifelong learning individuals and communities and the exchange activity of citizens lifelong learning experience, held the outcome exhibitions of community education and experimental projects of community education, and launched the training activities and competitions of community education on living skills, labor skills, household skills, and others, and also the reading activity of “integrating learning into community life”, etc.
On October 17, the special activity entitled “Activity Week of Lifelong Education for All” was held by Shenyang RTVU (Shenyang Community College). 10 communities, including Xilin Community, were awarded plaques with the title of “Lifelong Learning Education Demonstration Base of Shenyang Community College”. After the ceremony, students from Shenyang Community College delivered a wonderful performance. With the subject of “lifelong learning fulfills dreams”, the performance not only brought the learners happiness, but also enabled them to have experienced the comfortable learning atmosphere of the Lifelong Education College of Shenyang RTVU.
On October 28, 2014, Changchun Activity Week of Lifelong Learning for All was launched in Changchun RTVU, which was the fourth time Changchun has held the Activity Week of Lifelong Learning. The conference was held via two-way video conference, by which the content of the main conference in Changchun RTVU was simultaneously conveyed via the Internet to six community digital learning centre branches participating in this activity. In order to fully explore the teaching model and working mechanism of community education, further promote community education, and serve the learning for all and lifelong learning needs, Changchun RTVU has also taken part in the construction of the “i-Reading Lab”, which is a project of the Ministry of Education with a new teaching model for community education. “i-Reading Lab” aims to advocate nationwide reading and make reading become peoples' conscious responsibility, spiritual pursuit, and lifestyle. The “i-Reading Lab” project was unveiled during the launch ceremony. Additionally, during the Activity Week, Changchun RTVU held a reading report lecture for citizens, a nationwide reading knowledge contest, an online learning class for citizens, healthcare lectures for older adults, and so on.
On October 18, 2014, Activity Week of Lifelong Learning for All in Hunan started. In 2011, Lifelong Education Promotion Association of Hunan Province and Hunan RTVU held the first Activity Week of Lifelong Learning for All in Hunan. They were then able to standardize the format and designate the third week in October every year to be “Activity Week of Lifelong Learning for All in Hunan”. Since 2011, under the efforts of the Lifelong Education Promotion Association of Hunan Province, Hunan RTVU, and related RTVUs, Activity Week of Lifelong Learning for All in Hunan has been held 4 times. At present, there are a total of 2 national community education demonstration sites, 6 national community education experimental sites, 16 provincial community education experimental sites, and 61 provincial demonstration county-level vocational education centres in Hunan province. Lifelong education has covered more than 70% of the population in Hunan province.
The “Activity Week of Lifelong Learning for All” is an annual activity promoted by the Chinese Ministry of Education, and aims to popularize the idea of continuing education and lifelong learning, to construct complete lifelong learning systems, to enhance the quality of all Chinese citizens and their life tastes and to promote the construction of a learning society.
