Guangxi RTVU aided in construction of a Home for Left-Behind Children and donated computer equipment and stationary valued at RMB 35,000 for the primary school of Liuchang Village, Heng County on May 28, four days before the international June 1st Children’s Day. Additionally, Guangxi RTVU also contributed an amount of RMB 11,400 as the construction fee for a “Beautiful Village” for the village committee of Liuchang Village.

Guangxi RTVU is focused on taking real steps to lay a sound foundation for the new round of construction of Beautiful Guangxi (Poverty Relief) as a foundation on which to better assist and care for left-behind children.

Wei Zehong, Vice Secretary of the Party Committee of Guangxi RTVU, noted that the university would give full support for Liuchang Village, Zhenlong Town, in the battle against poverty. Guangxi RTVU’s contribution to the construction of the Home for Left-Behind Children is another measure taken by the university in the realization of the goal of connecting to people at the grass roots, the rural areas, the remote and minority concentrated areas and assisting in school administration, which reflects the social responsibility of the RTVU in promoting the construction of universal education and a life-long learning society, and realizing the development goal of “everyone can learn at anytime, anywhere”. Wei Zehong hoped that the students in the Primary School of Liuchang village would build up their self esteem, self confidence, independence, self reliance, and self improvement, bravely face difficulties, overcome hardships, study hard, live happily, grow up healthy and strong, and strive to be a helper to the elders, set a good example in courtesy and manners, and grow into strong adults that can master himself/herself and use their strengths for the construction of their hometown and in serving society.

There are a total of 78 students in Liuchang Primary School, including more than 50 boarding students, and 90% of them are left behind children. The teaching and living conditions are rather simple and crude, with unpainted classrooms and small dormitories. Some students have to share a bed due to the lack of beds. The library is partitioned from a portion of a classroom and the books in it are all text books left over by their upperclassmen.

Children in Liuchang Primary School were extremely appreciative of the books, stationery, and school supplies bought and presented by Guangxi RTVU staff. Su Lian, a third grader of the school, couldn’t contain her excitement and enthusiasm. She embraced the books tightly in her arms and gently touched over and over again the story books which she had previously only heard about from her teacher, but could now held and read. A merry smile came to her face. Another third grade student, Huangzhuan said, “Both of my parents are earning money in Guangdong province. It has been a year since I have seen them. They were not even able to come back for the New Year. I hope to see my Mom and Dad through the computer.” With these words, she hurried to the computer, as did her classmates, grasping her teacher’s clothes and inquiring about how to use these "magic" computers. While some junior students waited their turn, they impatiently stomped their feet, anxious to have a chance to experience this new adventure. Seeing their happiness, nearby teachers kept nodding their heads and said, “It’s really good to have the computers and Internet access. We are going to organize kids to meet their parents through computer video for the upcoming June 1st Day and other holidays so that parents can have some relief after seeing their children and children can better concentrate on their studies after seeing their parents. ”
