“This software is good. The characters are big enough”, “It includes old films”, “Typing is barely needed and it's convenient to use”… Recently, in a class for senior citizens at Wenzhou RTVU, the students were learning to use a fantastic APP, “Sacred Gear”, the mobile version of “Senior Citizen's Education Network of Wenzhou” designed and developed jointly by Wenzhou RTVU and Beijing Superstar Company, which is the first APP specifically designed for seniors in Zhejiang Province.

In November of 2013, based on market research, Wenzhou RTVU (City University of Wenzhou) opened the Senior Citizen's Education Network of Wenzhou, specifically targeted toward seniors. The website's layout is simple and direct, and uses number 26 extra-large font. The twelve sub-columns are differentiated by contrasting colors so that they can be easily recognized by senior citizen users. The website currently sees over one thousand visits per day. The number of registered users is 22,370, and page views have reached 210,192.

In order to further meet the demand for education of senior citizens and provide convenient distance learning for them, the mobile version of the “Senior Citizen's Education Network of Wenzhou” was born at just the right moment. The mobile version of the “Senior Citizen's Education Network of Wenzhou” is open to all senior citizens. Created in the same style as its web-based counterpart, and the main interface is divided into eight columns including open courses, audio books, listening to traditional operas, watching films, peoples’ show, and so on, with functions including online songs and films, online newspapers, uploading painting and photography,  etc.

“The APP is still in the development stage, and some functions are still being tested. It is expected to be fully integrated with the website by June of this year,” according to Mr. Chen Qianfan, the Deputy President of Wenzhou RTVU. He continued, “The university will introduce an iPad version next, open and perfect social networking functions such as “friends circle” and “friends space”, and speed up the updating of university news so as to realize a one-stop service for the diversified demands of our senior users, including learning, relaxation, and social communication.”
