The results of “Liaoning’s 2013 Person of the Year in Education”, sponsored by multiple entities including the Department of Education of Liaoning, Liaoning TV Station, and Liaoning Daily were unveiled recently, with Ji Changhong, the director of the General Affairs Infrastructure Construction Division of Liaoning RTVU making the list.

The selection of Liaoning’s Person of the Year in Education aims to find and reward those who made outstanding contributions to education in Liaoning and who made impressive efforts in teaching and pursuing their own studies, setting the example and taking the lead, promoting the spirit of selfless dedication of role models, and furthering good social trends like respecting teachers and valuing education, encouraging a good social climate of caring about, supporting, and understanding education. Through the recommendation of organizations, network voting by people from all walks of life, and expert review by the selection committee, there were a total of 10 educators from the entire province selected as “Liaoning’s 2013 Person of the Year in Education”.

As the director of the General Affairs Infrastructure Construction Division of Liaoning RTVU, Ji Changhong often made the university his home, and tried his best to provide better support and service with his heartfelt passion, love, and wisdom. He has created a warm, comfortable, and harmonious home of happiness for the entire university and won praise and trust from both teachers and students. There was a saying among the teachers and students: “Call Changhong when you have difficulties because nothing is difficult in front of him.” Whenever difficult or dangerous situations were encountered, the first person everyone would think of was Changhong. Last winter, the heating system had a major breakdown. The heating and plumbing pipes in the university were frozen and ruptured. On the third day of the Chinese Spring Festival, Ji Changhong led more than 20 workers to the site to expedite repairs. They worked on in the icy water and sewage for more than 40 days. This ensured the university would be able to open for the new semester as scheduled. At the university, there was a worker whose four-year old child suffered from a congenital heart disease. Ji Changhong led the staff of the university in a fund raiser, contacted “Dahai Hotline” at Liaoning TV Station, Red Cross Society of Liaoning, and No. 463 Hospital of Air Force to collect donations, eventually saving the child’s life. He has also provided financial aid to poor students for many years. Over the years, the donations of money and materials he has made to poor students has added up to more than 50,000 Yuan.

Liaoning RTVU hopes that all the teachers and staff at the university will deeply reflect on Ji Changhong’s deeds and imitate his pioneering spirit and work harder; serving for the educational cause with their own professional ethics and morals, making new contributions in building the university to be a new type of school that is more open and virtuous.
