Sun Wei, a student from Zhenghai School of Ningbo RTVU, traveled to Beijing and successfully donated his hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) to an American leukemia patient.

Sun Wei, from Xiepu of Zhenghai District, a student from the class of 2013, studied Human Resources at the Zhenghai Branch of Ningbo RTVU. He joined the army in 2009 and now is an active soldier stationed in Zhenghai. In May 2011 he became a HSC donor volunteer and took part in the China Marrow Donor Programme (CMDP). “This is one way that soldiers can serve others. I am only doing my duty. Our view is 'if we don't do it, who will?'” said the donor last December when he received the news that he was a match for a bone marrow transplant. He continued, “I know that the matching probability is slim and feel very honored to have found a match. I'm also very happy to know that I can bring hope to other people.”

On February 17th and 18th, 2014, Sun Wei donated 305 ml of HSCs at the Air Force General Hospital of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army in Beijing. These “life seeds” were immediately transported abroad by air and used in the treatment of a 51-year old Chinese-American with leukemia.

On February 28th the leaders of the Labor Union from Zhenghai Branch of Ningbo RTVU came to Sun Wei’s home and presented him with flowers and their best wishes. A great upsurge in learning how to practice the spirit of “humanity, love, and dedication” via practical action, as exemplified by Sun Wei, was on the rise in Zhenghai RTVU.

CCTV and other various media outlets from Zhejiang Province gave full coverage of Sun Wei’s donation, which has received much commendation.
