On 11 September 2024, the Open University of China (OUC, also known as Seniors University of China, SUC) invited Guo Guangcan, founder of the quantum information in China, academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), to give a science lecture on "Magic Quantum World" to the students from the OUC, SUC, and students of Hangtian Tuqiang Primary School located in Haidian District, Beijing.

Guo Guangcan proceeded from the scientific definition of quantum to illustrate the quantum mechanics theory, quantum communication, quantum computing, etc. to lead us to unveil the mysterious and magic quantum science. In the interactive session, he had a face-to-face exchange with the on-site teachers and students on the science topics.

This lecture is the latest "Science and China" Cloud Lecture series science popularisation project jointly planned and launched by CAS Bureau of Academic Divisions (CASAD), the National Science Library of CAS, and the OUC. It will be broadcast by media and network platform as a public service programme.

It is learnt that since 2012, the OUC has worked with the CASAD to plan and launch several science popularisation projects such as "Science and China: Video Lectures by Academicians and Experts" project, "Science and China" Cloud Lecture, and etc. Over 400 experts from the CAS, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and nationally renowned universities and research institutes have participated in the science popularisation teaching, forming 60 series, totaling 778 episodes, amassing a total of 19,000 minutes of high-quality science popularisation resources which are open for free to the public through various platforms and channels. The accumulative number of viewers exceeds 500 million. The project serves the lifelong learning of the whole nation with high-quality popular science content through popular forms. The published works and science popularisation videos incubated by the curriculum resources have won more than 50 national and provincial awards, including the Nomination Prize of the Chinese Government Award for Publishing and the China Outstanding Publication Award, etc. In 2024, the project was selected as a national "Lifelong Learning Brand Project" in the new era.
