Qingdao, 18 August 2025 – The Opening Ceremony of the in-person phase of “Academic Skills Training for Open University Teachers in China” was staged at Qingdao Open University. The programme was jointly organised by the Open University of China (OUC) and the University of Oxford.
Ms. FAN Xianrui, Vice President of OUC; LI Minggang, Secretary of CPC Qingdao Open University Committee; and Sam McIlroy, Director of the Language Centre, the University of Oxford, delivered opening addresses. LI Zhonglai, Vice President of Qingdao Open University, chaired the ceremony.
Vice President FAN noted that the programme is a conducive effort to strengthen the digital literacy and teaching skills of faculty across the Open University system. It represents an active step in OUC’s digital transformation of open education and supports the development of Open Learning Centres. She encouraged every participant to fully engage and apply what they have learned to further integrate information technology into teaching practices.
The programme is organised by the College of International Education in collaboration with the Department of Student Affairs and Teacher Development. It unfolds in two phases: synchronous online sessions were held from 4 to 8 August and have been completed by all participants, followed by intensive face-to-face workshops delivered by Oxford faculty from 18 to 22 August. The participants are drawn from OUC headquarters and 17 branches tasked with establishing the Open Learning Centres.
Following the ceremony, Vice President FAN and her delegation held a round table session on the development of Qingdao Open University’s Open Learning Centre.
