On May 30, the Open University of China (OUC) was inspected by Lu Xin, vice minister of the Ministry of Education (MOE); Liu Jiantong, deputy director-general of the Department of Vocational and Adult Education of the MOE; and Liu Ying, director of the Division of Distance Education and Continuing Education of the MOE. Lu Xin visited relevant departments and inspected the OUC’s development in the areas of educational digitalization, learning platform construction, teaching resources development, Chinese language teaching, and the credit bank system. Yang Zhijian, president of the OUC, introduced the progress made on a selection of pilot programmes of the OUC. Lu Xin commented that the RTVUs have made a significant contribution to China’s modernization drive. She hopes that the RTVUs will continue to make full use of their educational system; improve their management system; explore new ways to classify high-quality learning resources and cater to the specific needs of individual learners; make vocational ability the focus of training; use modern information technology to promote reform of the teaching model; lead the construction of a credit bank based on the concept of lifelong learning in order to satisfy diverse learning needs; and create a mechanism for recognizing learning outcomes so learners can live better, happier lives.
