In order to earnestly learn from and implement the guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and to put to effect the decision and deployment of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on comprehensively advancing rural revitalisation, on 9 December 2022, the Open University of China (OUC) held a video meeting to investigate pairing assistance to educational work in Butuo County, Sichuan Province and Li County, Gansu Province in light of the related work deployment of the Rural Revitalization Work Leading Group of the Ministry of Education (MOE).

The progress of the OUC’s work on rural revitalisation in 2022 was summarised at the meeting. The education bureaus of Butuo and Li counties gave reports on the achievements of the pairing assistance, the existing problems, and the work plan for the next steps. The two parties held exchanges and discussions on the follow-up allocation of education and teaching facilities, and the improvement of rural teachers’ education and professional ability.

At the meeting, an overall summary of the OUC’s support and assistance to the counties of Butuo and Li this year was given from the perspectives of field investigation, financial support, construction of hardware facilities, paired-up building of Party branches, and group assistance of education talents. Since 2022, the OUC has offered around RMB 1.6 million in paired financial support to Butuo and Li counties.

In the future, the OUC will thoroughly study and implement the relevant guiding principles of the 20th National Congress of the CPC on advancing rural revitalisation and implement the strategy of invigorating China through science and education. In accordance with the related deployment requirements of the Rural Revitalisation Work Leading Group of the MOE, the OUC summed up its work on rural revitalisation in 2022 to complete the final task; meanwhile, the OUC took the initiative to plan the work in 2023 based on the needs of the two counties and the reality of their schools to make new achievements in all jobs during the advancement of rural revitalisation.
