The results of the “Best of Zhejiang – 2012 Youth Leader” selection were announced recently. The list is hosted by Zhejiang Daily Press Group and sponsored by www.zjol.com.cn and Qianjiang Evening News.

It is held under the direction of the Publicity Department of Zhejiang Province Party Committee, Department of Information of the People’s Government of Zhejiang Province, Department of Education of Zhejiang Province, and China Communist Youth League Zhejing Committee. Among those selected was Zhang Shengxin, who graduated from Zhejiang RTVU in 2011.

Zhang Shengxin, who was born in the 1980s, works as a teller at the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China in Changshan. Although he only holds an ordinary post, he has realized his aim in life by serving the bank’s clients with all his heart and soul. He has completed an accounting course at the Changshan Branch of Zhejiang RTVU and graduated in July 2011.

Once, he found a picture of the “Cornfield Project” online and was shocked by the plight of the children. Their innocent faces and desire to learn drove him to do something to help them.

In March 2007, Zhang Shengxin joined the “Cornfield Project”, a non-governmental charity organization that aims to help disadvantaged students. Over the next five years, he established the Changshan branch of the “Cornfield Project” and the number of volunteers rose from 1 to more than 150. They have provided financial assistance for 14 students, helped to build five libraries and organized more than 40 pro bono activities. The volunteers are full of youthful, positive energy. Zhang Shengxin has put more than 1,800 hours into the project and has been awarded honors such as “Zhejiang Province Advanced Volunteer” and “Changshan County Top 10 Youth Volunteer”.

The “Best of Zhejiang – 2012 Youth Leader” list is selected by experts and ordinary people via the Internet, Weibo and text message. The title is awarded to 10 people; well-known recipients include Olympic champion Sun Yang and Ye Shiwen.
