At the 40th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva concluded recently, submissions from Nantong Radio and TV University (Nantong RTVU) won a total of three medals—one gold, one silver and one bronze.

The 40th International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva opened on April 18, 2012. More than 1000 new technological inventions from 46 countries were on display.

On behalf of mainland China, a delegation led by the State Intellectual Property Office of P.R.C. participated in the exhibition, demonstrating 26 inventions from 20 organizations across China, including inventions developed by students from 8 colleges and universities.

Shu Hang is an associate degree student in his second year at Nantong RTVU. His three inventions are both simple and practical. One is a communicator for the deaf-mute in the shape of a walkie-talkie, which allows the user to call for help by pushing a button and the caregiver to respond immediately. The second is a safe distance controller for highway driving, which sends out a warning signal to drivers to remind them to maintain a safe following distance. The third is a shoe that assists the elderly in climbing stairs, featuring a mechanical device embedded in the sole of the shoe that adjusts the heel height and protects the joints.

Shu Hang's inventions attracted the interest of the judging panel and received fine recognition. The communicator for the deaf-mute won a gold medal, the safe distance controller for the highway driving won a silver medal, and the stair-climbing shoes won a bronze medal.
