Diligent Learning and Thoughtful Practice: Enhancing Competence Through Unity of Knowledge and Action
ZHONG is a master of She ethnic martial arts, an intangible cultural heritage inheritor, and a primary-level leader who cares deeply for her community with practical dedication. She uses martial arts as a bridge to pass on ethnic culture, serves the people wholeheartedly to fulfil her original mission, and promotes rural revitalisation through diligent action. With persistence and devotion, she promotes She ethnic martial arts. With responsibility and commitment, she safeguards her community. With hard work and practical action, she builds a beautiful village.
Dedicated to Inheritance: A Guardian of She Family Martial Arts
Since 1995, ZHONG has participated in national and provincial martial arts competitions on behalf of Ningde City, winning 6 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals. She has been recognised as an outstanding athlete in traditional ethnic minority sports at the provincial and municipal levels.
As a representative inheritor of the provincial-level intangible cultural heritage project, she took the lead in establishing the Fu'an She Ethnic Traditional Martial Arts Association in 2019. Invited by several primary and secondary schools, she has set up school-based She martial arts courses, compiled teaching materials and devoted herself to preserving and promoting She ethnic traditional culture.
Since 2019, she has organised three sessions of the Jindouyang Village New Era Civilization Practice Activities and "Jindouyang She Ethnic Traditional Martial Arts Culture Festival." In 2022, a short video featuring her story, "Passing on She Ethnic Culture, Enriching People's Pockets," was selected as a classic case by the All-China Women's Federation. ZHONG has brought She ethnic martial arts into thousands of households.
Devoted to Service: A Caring Presence for the People
In 2020, ZHONG organised women's volunteers to carry out various service activities. She mobilised caring villagers, precisely matched the needs of vulnerable groups, helped patients with special diseases and disabled individuals process relevant documents, and delivered financial assistance to families in hardship, practicing her original aspiration of serving the people.
Fully Committed to Leadership: A Pioneer in Rural Revitalization
As a primary-level cadre in a She ethnic village, ZHONG upholds her original mission and enhances her comprehensive qualities. She promotes village-school collaboration, and facilitated the launch of the "Ningde Normal University School of Physical Education Practice and Research Base" and "Ningde Ethnic Middle School Jindouyang Martial Arts Practice Base," contributing to rural cultural revitalisation.
Building on the foundation of China's characteristic ethnic minority villages and beautiful countryside construction, ZHONG led the village "two committees" to focus on village beautification and living environment improvement. In 2020, she completed the widening and hardening of 3.1 kilometres of village roads and the transformation of the villagers' drinking water pipeline network. Since 2021, she has secured funding from higher authorities to improve She ethnic martial arts infrastructure, including upgrading the martial arts inheritance base, martial arts theme park, and Shangwu Corridor. Jindouyang Village was recognised as a Ningde City Rural Cultural Revitalisation Demonstration Village.
Since 2022, ZHONG has continued to advance rural revitalization. She completed the compilation of Jindouyang Village's "14th Five-Year" development plan, upgraded the martial arts training base, built filial elderly canteen, and carried out river management and embankment construction projects in the village. Furthermore, she has developed a "martial arts study tour" model and established a She ethnic martial arts study and practice tourism base. In 2023, Jindouyang Village was recognised as a Fujian Provincial Rural Revitalization Demonstration Village.
Moving forward, ZHONG will remain rooted at the grassroots, deeply cultivate inheritance, continuously explore and promote ethnic minority culture, carry out "culture + ethnic unity" initiatives, forge a rural revitalization path with ethnic minority characteristics, and make the She ethnic traditional martial arts of Jindouyang Village increasingly brilliant.
