From 2 to 3 July 2025, the 14th National Committee of the All-China Youth Federation and the 28th National Congress of the All-China Students’ Federation convened in Beijing.
LIU Murong, an outstanding alumnus of the Open University of China (OUC) and a graduate of the Business Administration Programme at the Fujian Branch in 2022, represented Fujian Province at the 14th National Youth Federation Committee Meeting.
Born in Fuzhou, Fujian, LIU Murong is a member of the China Democratic League and a master, inheritor of the traditional Fuzhou jasmine tea scenting craft. He has been honoured with the Fujian Youth May Fourth Medal and the Fuzhou Model Worker title.
LIU Murong was initially groomed to be the successor of his family business. However, his deep-seated passion for the traditional jasmine tea culture of Fuzhou led him to forsake a comfortable life and apprentice under renowned masters to learn the jasmine tea scenting technique. He enrolled in the Business Administration (junior college) programme at OUC. Over the years, he has successfully managed two tea companies.
As a major tea-producing province, Fujian is home to countless well-known jasmine tea enterprises. To stand out among competitors, LIU Murong recognised the necessity of creating a unique brand. After extensive research and deliberation during visits to the historical sites of Luozhou, he decided to combine tea with the local culture, giving birth to a tea brand "Luoxiannu" (Fairy of Luozhou).
In the pursuit of perfection in tea-making craftsmanship, LIU Murong embraced the spirit of a craftsman, constantly learning and improving. His dedication earned him accolades such as "Inheritor of Traditional Fuzhou Jasmine Tea Craft," "Master Inheritor," and "Representative Inheritor of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Cangshan District." The Fuzhou jasmine tea products he crafted won the "Gold Award" and "Tea King" titles at the Fuzhou Jasmine Tea King Competition for three consecutive years.
In his spare time, LIU Murong is actively involved in public welfare activities. He visits kindergartens, primary and secondary schools to serve as a cultural ambassador for jasmine tea, introducing traditional craftsmanship to children and allowing them to experience the profound Chinese traditional culture. In addition to his educational efforts, LIU Murong is also committed to charitable causes. He has participated in the construction of Hope Primary Schools, visited left-behind children, accompanied elderly people living alone, and contributed to the restoration of cultural relics and historical sites. He even opened a public library in his own factory.
LIU Murong actively participates in social innovation competitions and youth entrepreneurship mentorship training programmes. In 2021, he led a team to compete in the 7th China International "Internet Plus" College Students Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, where their jasmine tea project won the bronze award in the provincial round.
This competition not only promoted the culture of Fuzhou jasmine tea, but also broadened Liu Muyong's business and management perspectives.
After the event, LIU Muyong expressed his determination to put into practice OUC’s motto of "Respect for Learning, Education for All," and to take on the responsibility of inheriting and promoting the cultures of jasmine tea and Luozhou.
