The Open University of China (OUC) recently announced the results of its outstanding alumni awards, honouring 328 alumni from various sectors across the nation.

This initiative aims to highlight the admirable qualities of alumni who foster dreams, remain grounded in their communities, display remarkable courage, and contribute significantly to the nation. The awards also spotlight their diligence, dedication to duty, and innovative spirit within their ordinary roles, underscoring their status as experts in their respective fields. This event showcases the OUC's 45-year achievements in nurturing talent, setting exemplary standards, and promoting positive societal values.

Since the initiation of the awards, there has been an enthusiastic response from numerous branches, schools, and alumni, with 47 branches and associated schools submitting 576 alumni profiles to the headquarters. After a rigorous selection process involving preliminary reviews, expert evaluations, and panel discussions, 328 individuals, including Diao Rongchun, were finally designated as “OUC Outstanding Alumni.”

The recipients are exceptional figures from diverse fields, serving as role models through their extraordinary achievements in ordinary positions. They range from deputies to the National People’s Congress and delegates to the National Congress of the Communist Party of China, fulfilling their responsibilities to the people and the Party; to grassroots community leaders who drive entrepreneurial success and service in rural revitalisation; to educators who tirelessly nurture future talent; to workers and master artisans who innovate and excel in their craft; to acclaimed writers who depict life’s narratives through their prose; to business elites who strategically guide corporations towards success; and to individuals with disabilities who, despite their challenges, continue to inspire people with their perseverance and determination. Their actions profoundly embody the lifelong education philosophy and reflect the strength and character of OUC students.

Their accomplishments are inseparably linked to the OUC’s enduring ethos of fostering virtue through education and prioritising quality. These alumni not only promote the university’s brand but also act as practitioners and exemplars of patriotic service. Their commendable achievements will undoubtedly motivate other alumni, current students, and educational staff to actively engage and contribute to building a society devoted to learning.

This marks the third instance of the OUC conducting its outstanding alumni awards. Previous selections were held in 2018 and 2021, during which a total of 650 alumni received the “OUC Outstanding Alumni” accolade and 242 were honoured as “OUC Excellent Alumni”.
