To promote nationwide reading activities, the Seniors University of China (SUC) has curated high-quality reading resources and established a platform for enjoyable reading.

This initiative has led to the launch of reading zones on the Learning Network, Lifelong Education, and Senior Education platforms, providing digital reading resources and spaces with distinct features tailored to different groups.

The OUC Learning Network Platform Launches "Reading Brightens Life" Online Reading Activity Zone

The "Reading Brightens Life" online reading activity zone has been established as a means to promote a reading culture amongst teachers and students within the OUC system. The zone features a collection of 200,000 e-books and 50,000 reading-related videos, drawing from the vast resources of the digital library to cater to the reading needs of over 5 million system members. This initiative aims to encourage a love for reading, foster a sense of responsibility towards learning, and create a vibrant "campus of books" environment through participation in reading, sharing and the dissemination of the power of reading.

OUC Lifelong Education Platform Launches "National Book Reading in China" Online Reading Activity Zone

The "National Book Reading in China" online reading activity zone is a significant component of the OUC's initiatives aimed at catering to the reading requirements of the public. The zone incorporates high-quality reading resources from the OUC's own platform and external sources, and is comprised of two modules - "best book recommendation" and "best course recommendation." With over one million registered platform users and the public in mind, this zone provides options for individuals to select either reading books or listening to courses that suit their preferences.

National Senior Education Public Service Platform Launches "Reading for the Young and the Old" Reading Activity Zone

The "Reading for the Young and the Old" Reading Activity Zone, created by the SUC as a cultural forum to fulfill the reading requirements of seniors in China, features 99 recommended books across five themes: virtue cultivation, lifelong learning, active health care, life enjoyment, and positive attitude. In addition, the zone comprises three reading columns - Story Reading, Good Course Recommendation, and Reading Rank - which serve to guide seniors towards the development of positive reading habits.

Moving forward, the SUC will continue to leverage the three platforms to curate high-quality reading resources, improve the functionality of the special reading zones, and innovate activity formats. The SUC aims to promote book recommendation and reading activities through the organisation of lectures, exhibitions, sharing and exchange sessions, classical readings, and other such events, to inspire teachers, students, and the general public to appreciate the allure of reading. The ultimate goal is to contribute towards the development of a learning society and country where lifelong learning is pursued by all.
