Profile

Li Suhuan, member of the Communist Party of China (CPC), was a student in the 2015 Rural Enterprise Management class at the Qingyuan campus of Baoding Radio and TV University, Hebei Open University.

She has been reelected as deputy to the 14th National People’s Congress ( NPC) in 2023. This follows her election as member of the All-China Youth Federation in 2015 and her awards for “National Labour Role Model” in 2020 and “National Female Role Model with Outstanding Achievements” in 2021.

In 2018, Li was first elected as deputy to the 13th NPC. In 2023, she was reelected as deputy to the 14th NPC. Li said she felt under pressure, but this has given her extra motivation to perform her duties to the best of her abilities. She added that she has taken up every opportunity to study and learn in the face of fresh challenges.

As the leader of a fruit and vegetable cooperative in Nanwang Village, Li led efforts to develop a greenhouse cultivation centre for watermelons in Qingyuan District. The total area spans 10,000 mu (666 hectares), and in 2021 “Qingyuan Watermelon” was granted the title “Regional Public Brand” of Hebei Province. Through the influence of the centre, a special cultivation area covering seven townships and 76 villages in the neighboring region has also taken shape. The field of watermelons in Donglu Town has been named a “National Cultivation Base” by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, and the cultivation area for vegetables and melons in the region has reached over 300,000 mu (20,000 hectares). It produces a total of 600,000 tons of yield annually, with a production value of 1.2 billion yuan.

“As a deputy to the NPC, I should bring farmers’ voices to the Two Sessions, sparing no efforts to develop and strengthen modern agriculture by making agriculture stronger, rural areas more attractive, and farmers wealthier,” Li said.

Born and bred in rural China, Li has dedicated her heart and soul to agricultural development. As someone engaged in agricultural production for over two decades, she is deeply invested in measures proposed at the Two Sessions related to the quality of the environment, subsidies for farmers, and the capacity of medical services at the grassroots. As a deputy to the NPC, she said she hopes to meet expectations, develop her all-round qualities, and rise to meet any future challenges head on. She added she would take full advantage of her role as NPC deputy to investigate conditions among the masses, perform her duties and responsibilities accordingly, and work to strengthen the relationship between the masses and government.
