Ms. Xu Xiangdan is dedicated to and passionate about her work, and completes it to the highest standards. She also strives constantly to become a better teacher. In 1999, she became responsible for the construction and teaching of courses such as Corporate Finance, Financial Regulations, Enterprise Financial Behaviour, Investments, Securities Investment Analysis, Personal Banking, and Foundations of Financial Marketing.

Because these were new, she faced many difficulties. She has studied information technology and theories and methods of distance education, as well as postgraduate-level finance at the Central University of Finance and Economics. Over the past two decades, her publications and teaching have received many awards.

Her duties cover teaching and dissertation supervision at the OUC Experimental School, where she hopes to be a model to her students.

Since 1999, when open education was initiated, Ms. Xu Xiangdan has led the development of teaching methods and construction of resources. In terms of the former, this has included attempts to replace traditional face-to-face teaching with live TV broadcasts, as well as making education more interactive, with a focus on learner support and the learning experience. For the latter, she helped construct the online Corporate Finance course in 2003, and put it to trial use in 2004. It was the first completed course among the 15 online courses being planned at the time. All aspects of the construction were well received, and it became a template for many of her colleagues. This course has also received many honours, including the second prize for multimedia courseware at the “Oriental Yanyuan Cup” in 2005. It has been named an RTVU “Quality Course” in 2007, a “Quality Course of Online Education” by the Ministry of Education in 2008, a “Quality Online Open Course” by the Open University of China, and so on.

In 2006, she completed the construction of the online course Modern Monetary and Financial Theory, which came second in the MDER Cup for online courses in 2007, and was named an “Exquisite Online Course” by the Ministry of Education in 2007. In early 2009, she completed construction of the online course Financial Regulations, which was named a “Quality Course” by the RTVU university system that same year, and in 2013 received the same honour at the national level. At the Software Exhibition of China Higher Education in September 2003, she gave a lecture on financial regulations, which was broadcast live, and well-received.

Ms. Xu Xiangdan is enthusiastic, diligent, warm-hearted and helpful; she always does her best, and is patient, serious and prompt in dealing with questions. In her teaching and learner support, she is strongly support-oriented, and helps with the organisation of teaching, assessment, and graduation assignments for all her courses.
