Fan Guangzhao: the tutor once abandoned

When Fan Guangzhao was an infant, he was abandoned by his biological parents. His foster parents picked him up on the train. Learning that the child suffered from athetoid cerebral palsy, which might affect his physical movement and make him unable to take care of himself, his foster father didn't abandon him. However, bad luck came unexpectedly. When he was 15 years old, his father died in a car accident. The elderly grandparents had to support the family and take care of him. In the face of such difficulties, he asked his grandparents to send him to Zhengzhou Children's Welfare Home. Since arriving at the welfare home, under the tutelage of school leaders and teachers, he took part in the Chinese Dream Show Henan Division, and passed voting to win the title of "Got Talent." In February 2015, he was engaged as a tutor of the Zhengzhou regional youth service project organized by Chunhui Children (an aid foundation for children).

Due to various reasons, he failed to receive formal education. However, in the past 10 years, he has taught himself, and has gained fundamental knowledge. "From the day I went to the welfare home, I was haunted by darkness, loneliness, and depravity. Then, I slowly realized that the simplest and most efficient way to lead a free, independent, and dignified life is to study hard and make myself strong. Only by doing so can I win favor from society," he said. Luck has finally come: in the autumn of 2013, he was luckily admitted to the Open University of China’s (Henan School) School for the Disabled. He majored in Digital Media Design and Production. Fan said, "I not only gained a lot of knowledge, got acquainted with many students, and fulfilled a dream I had pursued for many years, but I also enhanced my self-confidence, boosted my self-esteem, and improved my outlook on my future! These are the most precious gifts the school could give me- they will benefit me greatly my whole life!" Now, he is getting closer and closer to his dream. He hopes that his classmates at the RTVU will learn to build self-reliance and confidence, bravely pursue their dreams, and strive to realize their dreams!
