On 3 June 2021, the Open University of China (OUC) held a ceremony to launch its ideological and political education centre for teachers and students at Jinggangshan University.

Liu Chen, deputy secretary of the OUC Party Committee, and Lv Yuhua, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee and vice president of Jinggangshan University, jointly unveiled the centre. Hu Chunxiao, secretary of the Party Committee of Jinggangshan University, and Huang Pinghuai, deputy secretary and president of Jiangxi Open University (Jiangxi OU), attended the event, which was presided over by He Xiaobin, dean of the Jinggangshan University School of Continuing Education and Training and president of Ji'an Radio and TV University.

Hu Chunxiao introduced Jinggangshan University and extended a warm welcome to the OUC delegation. Huang Pinghuai said that on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), Jiangxi OU will make full use of its geographical advantages, fully cooperate with the OUC headquarters, and give full play to the positive role of the Jinggangshan ideological and political education centre in the ideological and political education of teachers and students in the national school running system of the OUC.

Liu Chen expressed his gratitude to Jinggangshan University and Jiangxi OU for their support. He pointed out that the establishment of the ideological and political centre is a concrete measure as part of the implementation of the requirements of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council on building and making good use of a patriotic education centre and vigorously creating a strong social atmosphere to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. It is also an important way of delivering ideological and political education to teachers and students, promoting the transformation of red cultural resources into various educational resources at all levels, and bringing red revolutionary education to the campus and lectures and integrating it into students’ thoughts. He stressed that the construction of the centre should focus on the following content: First, it is necessary to solidly carry out practice and research activities, develop education resources for social practice, carefully design research pathways, and earnestly formulate schemes for social practice and research. Second, it is necessary to carry out in-depth research on the construction of the education centre, not only by organising and launching relevant activities but also by studying the relevant work principles. Third, it is necessary to strengthen the organisation and management of the centre. Since Jinggangshan is the first ideological and political education centre of its kind established by the OUC for its teachers and students, it is necessary to give full play to its leading and demonstrative role, carry forward red culture, and organise various kinds of ideological and political education activities based on different themes. At the same time, it is necessary to promote a “four-pronged” mechanism for work coordination, earnestly implement the spirit of the National Education Congress, build a high-quality professional teaching team that will satisfy the Party and the people, and cultivate socialist builders and successors with all-round moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic, and labour-oriented development.

Founded in 1958, Jinggangshan University is located in Ji'an City, Jiangxi Province, one of the birthplaces of the Chinese revolution. It is a university constructed with the joint support of both the People's Government of Jiangxi Province and the Ministry of Education. It is a full-time comprehensive university integrating education for graduates, undergraduates, and international students. The university remains dedicated to the education and training of revolutionary traditions, ideals, and beliefs relying on the rich red resources in the Jinggangshan region and has become an important national field for red culture training. The university was also included in the first group of the MOE “National Demonstration Centres for Red Classic Art Education.”
