The Cyberspace Administration of China recently released a list of selections to the “National Blockchain Innovative Application Pilot Programme” in education, with the Open University of China (OUC) selected in the area of  “blockchain + education”. A total of 14 projects are included from 14 institutions, including Tsinghua University, Peking University, and the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications.

In 2021, the “National Blockchain Innovative Application Pilot Programme” was launched by 17 government departments, including the Cyberspace Administration of China and the CPC Publicity Department, to select qualified candidates for the “blockchain + education” pilot programme. The OUC has been involved in blockchain for the Credit Bank for user-ID verification, digital recording and tracing of student files, circulation and control of sensitive information, protection of privacy, and other functions such as degree accreditation, cross-institution recognition of credits, and assessment & evaluation.

Selection to this programme indicates the OUC’s leadership in integrating information technology and supporting internet-based lifelong education. The OUC will contribute to the national “blockchain + education” initiative as a model of similar future initiatives, while continuing to facilitate the use of blockchain by the Credit Bank.
