Beijing, 1 July 2025 - The Open University of China (OUC) convened a mid-term exhibition and exchange activity for its model course and resource incubation projects.
This initiative is designed to fully implement the "Implementation Opinions on the Comprehensive Reform of Education and Teaching in Open Universities through Digital Intelligence Empowerment and Integrated Coordination" and to steadily advance the "101 Project" of open education. LI Song, Vice President of OUC, graced the event with his presence and delivered a speech. Over 200 representatives from the university's headquarters, including its schools and colleges, five teaching management departments, and three university-owned enterprises participated in the event, which was presided over by LI Wei, Director of the OUC Learning Resources Department.
The primary objective of this event was to showcase the phased achievements of the incubation projects for model courses and resources. Thirteen project leaders from ten schools of the university shared their course construction experiences on four key themes: "Course Design Reform Oriented by Job Competence", "AI-empowered Teaching and Resource Transformation", "Practical Training and Training Resource Construction", and "Innovation in the Form of Scenario-based Video Resources".
Vice President LI underscored that the construction of model courses and resources is a major measure for the university to deepen educational reform and enhance the quality of talent cultivation. He highlighted the necessity of focusing on the goal of "first-class standards and exemplary leadership and guidance" and adhering to four key principles: First, elevating standards and striving for excellence, with a focus on the connotation of "model", to create courses and resource benchmarks that are "well-received by students and recognised by society". Second, prioritising content and design, starting from the characteristics of adult learners, and comprehensively optimising the two major issues of "what to learn" and "how to learn". Third, simplifying learning and making optimal use of technology, applying technology based on the principles of suitability and appropriateness to find the superior cost-performance ratio and the best way to optimise learning outcomes. Fourth, taking the initiative and working collaboratively. Teachers are the primary responsible persons for course construction. Schools, teaching management departments, and production units should provide robust support and services in the whole teaching process to jointly advance project construction.
Since the inception of the incubation projects for model courses and resources in the second half of 2024, OUC has continuously propelled the high-quality construction of 70 incubation projects through various forms such as special research, teacher seminars, and learning surveys. Looking ahead, OUC will continue to bolster its overall coordination, refine the guarantee mechanism, and persistently create open education courses and resources that are exemplary, high-quality, and of benchmark standard, to serve the high-quality development of open education.
