The Open University of China (OUC) recently held a 2025 training programme for High-Quality “Dual-Competence” Teachers in Agriculture and Medical Fields. The training aims to implement the key national education strategy outlined in the Master Plan on Building China into a Leading Country in Education and put into practice the university’s policy for “Implementation Opinions on the Comprehensive Reform of Education and Teaching in Open Universities through Digital Intelligence Empowerment and Integrated Coordination”, enhance the teachers’ professional skills and boost their digital teaching innovation ability.

OUC Vice President ZHOU Tianming attended the Opening Ceremony and delivered a speech. A total of 972 teachers from the headquarters and 40 branches (colleges) related to agriculture and medical fields participated in the training. LI Guangde, Dean of the OUC School of Agroforestry and Medicine and Executive Vice Dean of the Rural Revitalisation College, presided over the Opening Ceremony.

Vice President ZHOU highlighted that strengthening the construction of agriculture and medical fields and improving the quality of talent cultivation are important foundations for serving rural revitalisation and safeguarding people's health. He stressed that all the participating teachers should uphold the original intention of education and strive to be great teachers. OUC teachers should bravely take on the mission of fostering virtue through education, continuously improve the quality of teaching and education, and contribute to building China into a leading country in education through open education.

Ten experts delivered special reports, including: YE Feng, an associate professor at Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine and a member of the Ministry of Education's “Spirit of Educators” 2025 Touring Publicity Group; SHI Leifen, a professor at Lishui Open University; TANG Yiting and ZHAO Yanfei, both associate professors at OUC; GU Xin, a professor at Ningxia University; LI Furong, a professor at Shandong First Medical University; LI Qifeng, a researcher at Beijing Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences; PENG Yihong and ZHAO Guodong, professors at Peking University; and ZHANG Shaogang, a researcher at OUC.

The participating teachers all expressed that the training was highly informative and well-arranged. They benefited a lot and were deeply impressed. The teachers said, they would apply what they have learned in the training to teaching and education, practice the spirit of educators, adhere to the student-oriented approach, promote the deep integration and innovation of digital intelligence technology and teaching and education, which help continuously improve the quality of talent cultivation in agriculture and medical fields.
