To advance the construction, optimization, and refinement of the quality of political science majors, as well as to enhance the professional competence and comprehensive skills of teaching staff, and to reinforce the cohesion and centripetal force of the system, the Open University of China (OUC) hosted centralized teaching and research activities for political science majors in Chenzhou City, Hunan Province from 17th to 18th April 2024.

The event was graced by the presence and speeches of Liu Xuanxuan, deputy secretary of the OUC Party Committee and secretary of the OUC Discipline Inspection Committee; Wu Min, vice president of Hunan Open University; and Huang Wei, secretary of the Party Committee of Chenzhou Open University. The event was presided over by Yuan Songhe, vice dean of the OUC School of Political Science and Law, and drew participation from over 80 representatives, including heads, programme leaders, and teachers of academic departments of political science majors from over 40 branches nationwide. The activities comprised theme reports, experience sharing, exchange and discussions, as well as on-site visits.

Yuan Songhe analysed and summarised the distinctive features, development process, current issues, and development trends of open education, providing insights for the high-quality development of open education. Gu Xiaohua, director of the OUC Academic Affairs Department, elucidated the measures for continuing education outlined by the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), encompassing topics such as the teaching management system, integration of ideological and political education into the curriculum, programme development, governance of the teaching process, and digitalisation, providing valuable insight and guidance for fulfilling the key tasks of teaching work for political science majors.

The event also featured an awarding ceremony for the excellent teaching plan design competition for political science majors. First-prize teacher representatives from branches in Hunan, Hebei, Wuhan, Guangzhou, and Hubei shared their experiences in teaching plan design. Department heads of the School of Political Science at the OUC headquarters, heads of relevant academic departments from Zhejiang Branch, and teacher representatives from the Chengdu Branch presented key insights, focusing on programme development, team building, and curriculum & practical teaching. Building upon the experience sharing session, participants engaged in active communication and discussions, concentrating on programme reform and development, collaborative teaching across the system, and teachers’ professional growth. Following the session, all the participants visited the Wayaoping practical teaching base of Chenzhou Open University.

With a refined focus and enriched content, the event further expounds on the developmental trends facing the political science majors, major work strategy, and key work content, contributing to the consolidation of consensus, formulation of working plans, and strengthening of connections, thus paving the way for the high-quality development of political science majors at the OUC.
