In order to encourage and enhance the original academic research of its faculty, the OUC Press Group put out a call for essays on the topic of "Suggestions for the 14th Five-Year Plan".

The call went out on 18 June 2020, requesting original unpublished essays closely related to the research of faculty, combining theory with practice and innovation with practicality, and supported by clear, well-grounded arguments and accurate data.

To clarify its purposes and standards, the OUC Press Group held a seminar on the writing of these essays on 3 September.

By 16 October, 16 essays covering traditional publishing, integrated publishing, editing and production, marketing of publications, business management, and other topics, had been received. They reflect a valuable assessment by OUC faculty of their own work.

The OUC Press Group set up a panel of three judges from inside and outside the Press, and it met to determine the top three essays, and offer encouragement to the authors of the remaining ones.

At the meeting, the essays were compiled into an e-book named "Brainstorming Development and Innovation: Suggestions for the 14th Five-Year Plan", published by the OUC Press Group for use in discussions among employees of the group.
