Having completed scholarship evaluation for 2019, the Open University of China (OUC), after verification and public announcement, decided to grant OUC scholarships to 12,086 students.

8,673 students were awarded the OUC scholarship, 553 students won the OUC “Field of Hope” scholarship, 100 students won the OUC Sunshine Scholarship for Disabled Education, 415 students won the OUC Scholarship for Non-commissioned Officers, and another 2,345 students won the OUC special scholarship for the “Long March Belt” Education Project Targeted at Alleviating Poverty.

The OUC’s 2019 scholarship appraisal work officially started in January 2020. All OUC branches attached great importance to this work and seriously organised both the application and preliminary examination of the scholarships. On the basis of a preliminary review of the candidates’ materials, on 8 July 2020, the OUC also organised an expert evaluation meeting to conduct a final review of the materials submitted by the branches and determine the list of scholarship winners. After a public announcement in mid-July, the list of winners was finally determined.

The 12,086 scholarship winners come from 45 OUC branches, as well as the OUC Experimental School, the Bayi School, the School for the Air Force, the Jundun School, the School for the Disabled, the School of Automotive Engineering, and the Postal School. The scholarship recipients include farmers, teachers, officers, and soldiers, as well as workers from all walks of life. All of them worked hard and overcame the challenges of studying while they worked. They excelled thanks to their diligence and excellent learning results. It is hoped that the other OUC students will learn from the example of these award-winning students, make full use of the learning resources and information technology conditions of modern distance education, study hard, strive for progress, and create a life of learning.
