With the aim of inspiring young people’s critical thinking ability and passions for learning and further development, as well as discovering and cultivating promising young talents, the Open University of China (OUC) held an official document writing competition for its young staff on 9 May 2020. The competition was given high emphasis by the university’s leadership and departments. The activity garnered a large number of responses and a total of 240 young staff from 35 departments enrolled in the competition.

The competition took the format of an onsite paper examination, with the theme of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s speeches on promoting China’s educational reform and development. The competition tested the young staff’s theoretical literacy and writing ability, and also inspired them to follow up with the latest thoughts and have the energy to make further contributions.

The competition encouraged the young staff to learn and enhance their understanding and insight so that they can better implement their work and transform their new understanding into innovative concepts that can help them make further breakthroughs. It was hoped that the competition would enable them to realise their insufficiencies and be motivated to work even harder. Young staff should constantly improve their knowledge and ability levels whether there is a competition or not and showcase the positive spirit of the OUC youth.
