During the fourth plenary (expanded) meeting of the 15th Shanghai Committee of the Communist Youth League of China (CYL) held on March 10, 2020, Wang Yu, secretary of the Committee, gave a work report on behalf of the Standing Committee, in which he recogised the positive role and contribution of the youth team of the Shanghai Branch of the Open University of China (OUC) in the battle against COVID-19.

The report pointed out that “the OUC’s Youth League members have given full play to the advantages of online teaching and educational technology services, responded to consultation from teachers around the clock, and helped primary and secondary school teachers in the city prepare for online teaching,” and called on Youth League members in the city to pay tribute to them.

Since the beginning of the outbreak of coronavirus, the Shanghai Branch Committee of the CYL has responded positively to the call of the CYL Central Committee and its Shanghai branch. With the support of Shanghai Education Software Development Co., Ltd. and Shanghai Education Television, a team made up of young members of Shanghai Education Television was set up in order to provide online classes and technology-related public welfare services for primary and middle schools in Shanghai and unite and lead youth league members in participating in the epidemic prevention and control.

The youth team providing online technology-related public welfare services for Shanghai primary and secondary schools was established overnight in response to 24-hour consultations with teachers in all sections and disciplines of the city, part of an endeavour to help Shanghai primary and middle schools resume online classes. The youth team from Shanghai Education Television lost no time in rushing to the front line of the battle against the epidemic, reported the latest consultation items, spread epidemic prevention knowledge, and contributed to the fight against the epidemic with the backing of youth members from the OUC Shanghai Branch.
