From 8-10 May 2019, a seminar on teaching work for the Open University of China’s (OUC) Electromechanical majors was held in Huzhou, Zhejiang province. Ye Zhu, Vice President of Huzhou Radio and TV University (Huzhou RTVU), Shao Yunda, deputy director of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, and more than 70 other teachers, including persons in charge of the majors and members of the online teaching team from the OUC headquarters and branches, participated in the seminar.

Mr. Ye, vice president of Huzhou RTVU, was the first to make a welcome speech. He introduced the "four-in-one" school-running characteristics of Huzhou RTVU: strengthening higher vocational education, expanding open education, creating features that help to educate farmers, and adding flexibility to community education. He said that we should put moral education first and strengthen the ideological and political leadership of students. We should strengthen connotation construction throughout the whole process, pay close attention to the routine to improve the quality of school running, and focus on improving the brand, so as to provide better services for Huzhou, strengthen system construction, and use it as a joint force, providing a reference point for the running of Huzhou RTVU.

Shao Yunda, deputy director of the OUC Faculty of Science and Engineering, gave a detailed introduction to the operation of the online teaching team, the ideological and political education elements of the majors, and "1+X" teaching reform around the reform of teaching in the engineering majors. Teachers Li Zhixiang and Tian Xiao from the OUC Faculty of Science and Engineering introduced the contents of the Mechanical and Electrical majors in 2019, including the concepts of major construction and reform, the problems existing in the application and granting of bachelor's degrees, and the teaching reform of the basic courses of Electromechanical Control Engineering. Several teachers from the Huzhou branch, including Yang Ruoning, Liu Donghong, Li Kai, Li Yun, Zhao Ya, Liang Liuqing, and Wang Shifeng, gave keynote speeches on ideological and political education, the construction of digital resources, the responsibilities of "responsible teachers", the application of new information technology, the practical links, and the construction of the teaching platform for electromechanical courses. During the meeting, the participating teachers also discussed ideological and political education and the progress of teaching reform in their respective schools, as well as putting forward valuable suggestions for subject development and the construction of majors, curricula, resources, and teaching teams for the Electromechanical majors.

The attending teachers attested to the timeliness and necessity of the meeting and said that the convening of the seminar will play a role in promoting the deepening the reform of the teaching of these majors, enhancing the cohesion and competitiveness of teachers in the system, and improving teachers' moral level and teaching abilities. Through this meeting, they reached a consensus, clarified their direction, and gained confidence for the stable and sustainable development of the OUC Electromechanical majors.
