From 6-10 May 2019, the Open University of China (OUC) held a training class for key finance major teachers with the aim of strengthening the construction of the teaching team of its finance majors, advancing the professional development of teachers, and improving the teachers’ teaching ability and political accomplishment.

Fifty-five teachers from finance majors in 33 OUC branches attended the training and completed the studies. Liu Chen, deputy secretary of OUC Party Committee, granted completion certificates to the trainees.

The training class consisted of special reports, courses, and communication and discussion sessions. Liu Chen gave a special report titled “New Requirements for Open Education Teachers in the New Era”, which elaborated three areas, “study the status quo, be aware of direction, seek development,” “loftiness and expectations for the teaching profession,” and “new requirements for teachers in open education.” Li Fang from the University of International Business and Economics and Professor Li Yanbing from Beijing Union University shared their research and teaching practice of teacher ethics and political education with the trainees. Professor Wang Tingting and Professor Chen Ying from the Central University of Finance and Economics gave lectures on the teaching content, pedagogic concepts, and frontline trends in the Investment and Operation and Management of Commercial Banks courses respectively.

The teachers attending the training stated that they gained a lot from it and agreed that it enabled them to clearly understand their responsibilities and helped them to enhance their theoretical achievements while also acquiring valuable teaching experience from the experts. They hope that more of this type of training could be offered, the training approaches can be further diversified, and more time for communication and discussion can be arranged.
