The Open University of China (OUC) recently held workshop on Ideological and Political Education for students in the new era in Wuhan.
According to Zhang Wenbin, deputy director of the Department of Moral Education of the Ministry of Education (MOE), under the new situation of thoroughly implementing the spirit of the national education conference and national college ideological and political work conference as part of the national education system, the OUC held the seminar on the important topic of the ideological and political programme of students in the new era, which is of great significance and far-reaching influence. He said that the OUC, as a new type of university with 3.8 million students, should integrate the ideological and political programme of students into that of all its national colleges.
The OUC is committed to changing the traditional model of ideological and political education and has skilfully designed every lesson. In November 2017, the OUC set up a team to lead the transformation of ideological and political education. In the new model, students are the core and questions are the direction. Authoritative experts and scholars, as well as advanced technical members, combine teaching with modern IT methods, creating refined lessons. In order to meet the demands of ubiquitous, mobile, and fragmented learning, they have helped students to study at anytime, anywhere.
Based on the “Six-Network Integration” cultivation platform, a new model including “online learning space”, “online courses”, “online teaching team”, “online learner support”, “online examination and assessment”, and “online teaching management” was built. Thanks to this one-stop service, students can log in to access ideological and political resources. Nearly one year later, millions of students have already registered.
“Next, we will try to ensure that there are enough qualified and sufficient teaching members for each lesson,” Yang Zhijian, OUC president and secretary of the OUC CPC Committee said. He also said that ideological and political education within the OUC system needed effort from all parties within the OUC.
“The OUC will join with other ordinary universities and higher vocational colleges, as well as social groups, to focus on the subject and lesson research of ideological and political education, with the aim of creating featured OUC lessons,” Yang Zhijian said. He also said that, as a new type of university based on modern IT and covering the whole country, the OUC should not only build excellent online ideological and political lessons, but also make full use of all supporting services to ensure the quality and effectiveness of the lessons.
