The Calligraphy programme, from diploma to undergraduate level, commenced enrolling students in the open university system nationwide during the spring term of 2022.

Currently, it has successfully recruited 1000 students from 15 branches of the OUC, significantly bolstering the initial enrolment numbers for this recently established art programme. Moreover, a wide range of teaching and learning activities have been meticulously organised and implemented for learners at study centres throughout China's OUC network.

Senior experts and professors from the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Peking University, Beijing University of Language and Culture, and the China Calligraphers Association have been hired as leading compilers and lecturers for the specialty core courses. The OUC headquarters has assigned seven course leaders for the programme, one of whom holds the title of professor, while the other six hold professional lecturer titles. Additionally, the programme benefits from the support of 500 teachers within the OUC system who possess a background in calligraphy-related disciplines. These course leaders nationwide form the backbone of a professional teaching team and regularly participate in seminars to discuss and exchange insights on the trends and developments in the Calligraphy major. Their objective is to provide improved teaching and services to the students. Key teachers receive regular training within the OUC system to enhance their professional and teaching abilities.

The specialty core courses have been transformed into online courses, complete with a dedicated core course teaching team and teaching operation team. This arrangement ensures the implementation of a hierarchical responsibility system, extending from the teachers at the headquarters to the programme leaders and the responsible personnel at the tutorial centres. The goal is to ensure that every teacher and student within the system receives comprehensive teaching and learning support. The primary mode of instruction is online delivery, supplemented by face-to-face teaching and practice sessions.
