It was announced recently that two projects, Stronger Manufacturing, Stronger China: From Manufacturing Power Strategy to China Manufacturing 2025 and Eye of Space: Space Technology Escorts the Belt and Road Initiative, submitted by the Open University of China Press (OUC) will be funded by the National Publication Foundation in 2018.

Stronger Manufacturing, Stronger China: From Manufacturing Power Strategy to China Manufacturing 2025 is a public video lecture jointly planned and launched by the OUC and the strategic consultation centre of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE). The project explains the national strategy from a top-level design perspective, closely adheres to the overall planning of China Manufacturing 2025, and focuses on seven directions: high-end equipment manufacturing, intelligent manufacturing, strong industrial base, green manufacturing, service-oriented manufacturing, high-quality manufacturing, and innovation system. The project is presented in the form of “1+5+X", wherein "1" refers to the preface of "Stronger Manufacturing, Stronger China”; "5" means five key projects in "Stronger Manufacturing, Stronger China", which are construction of an innovation centre for China’s manufacturing industry, intelligent manufacturing, strong industrial base, green manufacturing, and high-end equipment innovation; and "X" stands for a number of refined special columns. Zhou Ji, CAE academician and group leader of the CAE’s Strategic Research of a Manufacturing Power project serves as a consultant to the special lecture. Zhu Gaofeng, a CAE academician from the project team, serves as the chief editor. The expert team is made up of the deputy team leader, Gan Yong, and several academicians, including Liu Baicheng, Li Bohu, Yin Ruiyu, Qu Xianming, who are responsible for topic selection, compilation, and lecturing.

The project is the first video programme to discuss the relationship between "Made in China" and "Stronger China" from the perspective of national strategy, which fills a gap in the market for audio-visual product publishing. With the implementation of this project, we can bring academic achievements, such as the Strategic Research of a Manufacturing Power, to the people, realising the sharing of high quality resources.

Eye of the Space: Space Technology Escorts the Belt and Road Initiative project is a series of public lectures, a Science and China: Lectures by Academicians and Experts programme jointly organised and planned by the OUC and the Academic Divisions of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It has 16 episodes for a total length of 400 minutes.

The Eye of the Space: Space Technology Escorts the Belt and Road Initiative project penetrates the academic frontier of space observation technology, which supports the Belt and Road Initiative and its systematic international application. The programme is a joint effort of the international scientific planning project group, which undertakes the task of scientific research for the Digital Silk Road. Guo Huadong, a chief scientist of the cooperative group and academician at the CAS’ Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth, serves as editor in chief. By combining advanced theories with application cases, it gives lectures on the research achievements using space observation technology to support the Belt and Road Initiative and its applications. The project aims to enhance public awareness of space technology and its application, in order to make it clear that the construction of the Belt and Road Initiative is a tangible practical measure that will benefit both China and the surrounding countries, and gain a better understanding of China’s international responsibility during its rapid transformation from a "world power" to a "stronger global player.”

The two projects, both constructed by the OUC’s Learning Resources Department and produced and published by the OUC Multimedia Press, are expected to be completed in December 2018.
