From 12 to 15 October, the on-site finals of the China International College Students' Innovation Competition (2024) were held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Liu Xuanxuan, deputy secretary of the Party Committee of the Open University of China (OUC), was present at the event to cheer for the participating students.

A total of 12 projects from the OUC’s educational system made it to the finals. Among them, there were six projects in the "Youth Red Dream-Building Journey" track (hereinafter referred to as the "Red Journey" track) and six projects in the Vocational Education track. After fierce competition, the OUC students won one gold medal and five silver medals in the "Red Journey" track, and two gold medals and four silver medals in the Vocational Education track.

The theme of this year's competition was "I Dare to Venture, I Can Innovate", focusing on the overall goals of being "Increasingly featuring Chinese characteristics, more international-minded, more education-focused, more comprehensive, more innovation-driven, and more collaborative-oriented ". It is reported that in 2024, the competition attracted 5.14 million projects and 20.836 million participants from 153 countries and regions and 5,406 schools at home and abroad. Since the start of the competition, all branches and colleges of the OUC have widely mobilised teachers and students to actively participate. A total of 32 branches and the Experimental College registered for the competition, collecting 18,677 projects with 56,933 participants, setting a record for the highest number of projects and participants in the history of the competition.

The OUC attaches great importance on cultivating students' innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities. For five consecutive years, it has organised teachers and students from its educational system to participate in the China International College Students' Innovation Competition. Through the method of “promoting learning, teaching, and innovation through competitions”, the OUC has enhanced students' innovative spirit, awareness, and abilities. It also focuses on exploring the organic integration of innovation and entrepreneurship education with professional education, helping students apply what they have learned to achieve new advancements and breakthroughs in various industries and fields.

In the future, the OUC will thoroughly study and implement the guiding principles of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee and the National Conference on Education. It will persistently and deeply cultivate students' innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities, intensify the integration of internal and external teaching and practical resources, and improve the collaborative training mechanism for innovative talent. By comprehensively and deeply integrating innovation and entrepreneurship education into the entire process of talent cultivation, the OUC aims to enhance students' core competencies and contribute to the accelerated development of a leading country in education.
