Doctor Liu Yan is a professor of Beijing Normal University and a doctoral student supervisor. She is a member of the 11th and 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and a member of the CPPCC National Committee’s Committee of Education, Science, Culture, Health and Sports, a member of Pre-School Education Work Committee of the Ministry of Education, a member of the Expert Committee for National Teacher Education Course Resources of the Ministry of Education, a visiting professor of Hangzhou College of Pre-School Teacher Education of Zhejiang Normal University, a visiting professor of Xuzhou Kindergarten Teachers College, an editorial aboard of UK’s International Journal of Early Years Education, an editorial abroad of Australia’s International Research in Early Childhood Education, a member of the Academic Committee of China National Society of Early Childhood Education, and a part-time researcher of the Curriculum and Teaching Material Research Institute with People's Education Press. She has been dean of the Department of Preschool Education attached to Beijing Normal University’s School of Education for quite a few years, the first chairwoman of Children' s Games and Toys Professional Committee of China National Society of Early Childhood Education, a visiting scholar of Canada’s University of Toronto (the former Ontario Higher Education Research Institute), a Fulbright visiting scholar of USA’s University of Maryland, and an advisor of the compiling group of Guiding Principle for Pre-School Chinese Language Teaching commissioned by Singapore’s Ministry of Education.
