Pen Huiru’s main interests are crop genetics and breeding, and crop genomics.  

She is mainly engaged in the selection of heat resistant wheat germplasm, genetic research on heat resistance, QTL positioning, differences in heat resistance expression, and basic molecular biological research on the other stress resistance of wheat. She has been lecturing on the undergraduate subject “field experiment methods and statistical analysis”, and the postgraduate subjects “quantitative genetics” and “population genetics”.
