I. Training objectives and specifications

(I)The objective is to train professionals in the basic theories of modern pre-school education and the skills in line with children’s developmental needs. They will be qualified to work as child educators in schools, communities and households.

(II) Training requirements

The programme equips students with the following.

1. Mastery of the basic principles of Marxism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory; a scientific outlook; love of pre-school education; sound professional ethics; and a desire to work toward socialist modernization.

2. A grasp of culture, science and art, as well as the basic theories and methods of pre-school education; the ability to reflect on teaching and develop as a teacher.

3. English and computer skills.

4. Mental and physical health, and a sound personality.

II. Curriculum setup

The curriculum focuses on cultivating the ability to develop preschool activities by building understanding of childhood development, childcare, child education, and other areas, enabling undergraduates in the programme to explain phenomena, grasp causal relationships, and enhance their skills. The specialised courses include foundation courses (Pedagogy, Psychology, Basics of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Basics of the Natural Sciences, Basic Psychology of Preschool Children, Introduction to Preschool Education, Basics of the Kindergarten Curriculum, Basics of Preschool Hygiene, Professional Ethics for Teachers, and others); specialised core courses (Health Education of Preschool Children, Language Activities for Preschool Children, Social Activities for Preschool Children, Science Activities for Preschool Children, Mathematics Activities for Preschool Children, Art Activities for Preschool Children, Music Activities for Preschool Children, Games for Preschool Children, Creating a Kindergarten Environment, Observation of the Behaviour of Preschool Children, and others); and specialised extended-curriculum courses (Organisation and Implementation of Daily Life in the Kindergarten, Professional Development of Preschool Teachers, Design of Parent-Child Activities for Children Under 3, Teaching Skills for Preschool Teachers, Vocational Qualification Certificates, and others).

III. Teaching team

A variety of media resources shall be built by bringing together experts in distance education and multimedia to ensure quality of education. The major has 12 full-time tutors, of whom one has a doctoral degree, and three have master’s degree in preschool education; one is a professor, and three are associate professors; and all the full-time tutors have experience visiting well-known universities at home and abroad for training in preschool education.
