Brief Introduction 

The Academic Affairs Department is responsible for the management of teaching affairs at the Open University of China (OUC). Its main functions include construction of disciplines and courses, teaching management, organisation and administration of exams, enrolment, student-status management, degree affairs, fee collection and payments, and accounting. It is also responsible for formulating teaching-related policies as well as management systems and standards, and organising the implementation and inspection of related work. Finally, it also manages educational research, cooperation with other educational bodies, and delivery of education to industrial workers.

Department Structure  

The Academic Affairs Department has a central office as well as separate departments for management of discipline and curriculum, teaching, student status, examination affairs, question-bank construction, and examination discipline; it also has offices responsible for data and statistics, fee collection and payments, organising postgraduate education, enrolment, educational cooperation (the College-management Office), and projects (Office of Industrial-worker Education).

Admissions Management:

Responsible for formulating admissions management methods, conducting market research and analysis on admissions, preparing admissions applications and plans for each quarter, promoting admissions, reviewing new student eligibility for enrolment, and managing admissions platforms.

Teaching Management

Responsible for organising discussions and approving training programmes, maintaining and managing professional rules and data, approving and implementing course syllabi and teaching design plans, reviewing and managing exemption and credit transfer applications, and sharing programmes declaration and review processes. Also responsible for developing teaching management systems and methods, as well as organizing and managing teaching and academic meetings.

Academic Management:

Responsible for the formulation and implementation of academic management systems, management of information changes such as student transfers, withdrawals, and leaves of absence, qualification reviews and management of graduates, issuance and management of graduation certificates, as well as the review and issuance of course completion certificates and graduation certificates.

Examination Centre:

In order to establish a new learning evaluation model for the OUC, the Examination Centre ensures the orderly national unified exams within the distance education system while implementing the OUC's construction plan, deepening the reform ideas of learning assessment, and exploring new learning evaluation models focusing on question bank construction and appointment-based exams. The center provides convenient and fast personalized and diversified learning evaluation services for learners.
