Gao Sumin is an associate professor of the School of Education of the CCRTVU (aka OUC).
From 1981 to 1993 she was a middle school mathematics and class teacher. She had been chosen as an exemplary teacher and advanced educational worker many times because of her outstanding performance in teaching. In 1993, she was transferred to the CCRTVU for work in distance tutor education. She is now the course leader for Teaching and Research on Primary School Mathematics and Teaching and Research on Middle School Mathematics (undergraduate programme), as well as Basic Natural Science (junior college programme). Her research mainly deals with mathematics education and distance education. Since 1993, she has continued to successively produce scores of TV teaching materials (over 600 parts) for primary and middle school teachers’ continuing education and degree education. Her works that have been submitted for review as national excellent TV teaching materials for teacher education organized by the Ministry of Education have been awarded the first prize and "excellent" prize many times. TV series for continuing education, such as Mathematics in Life and Primary School Mathematics Teaching Under the New Curriculum Concept, have been selected as excellent resources for national distance education; the series training courses of middle school mathematics From Arithmetic to Algebra won the third prize in the Junior High School Group of the 12th National Multimedia Class Competition of “Xue Zhi Wang Bei” (Internet Learning Cup) held by the Ministry of Education; Area of a Triangle, a demonstration class of primary school mathematics, won the third prize in the Primary School Group of the 12th National Multimedia Class Competition of “Xue Zhi Wang Bei” (Internet Learning Cup) held by the Ministry of Education; the printed teaching material for the degree education course Teaching and Research on Middle School Mathematics was selected as a distance education resource recommended for use nationwide by the Ministry of Education; Teaching and Research on Middle School Mathematics won the Innovation Award of the National RTVU’s Second Teaching Design. In recent years she has published these theses: Some Thoughts on Teaching Material Development of Distance Teacher Education, On the Design and Production of Teaching Cases of Television Teaching Materials, Teaching Strategies for Development Friendly Classes of Learning Ability, and Improving Mathematics Teaching Quality in Middle Schools with Modern Information Technology. She has participated in the compilation and writing of the printed material Teaching and Research on Primary School Mathematics and Basic Natural Science, totaling about 160,000 words. Moreover, she has been honoured with the titles of Advanced Individual, Excellent Tutor, and March 8th Red Banner Holder.
