Tang Yingshan’s research is directed towards distance education of fine arts, and the courses he leads include material and construction technology, line drawing, and colour theory.

The following are his major research achievements:
In 2009, the picture Album Tang Yingshan was published by Guangxi Arts Publishing House; Sketch was published by the OUC Press; and Composition Art won first prize of the First Excellent Teaching Materials of China University Press Book Award (December 2009).
In 2010, the CAI courseware for Sketch won first prize among 2010 National RTVU Multimedia Teaching Materials; the CAI Courseware for Freehand Brushwork of Small Flowers and Birds won first prize among 2010 National RTVU Multimedia Teaching Materials and first prize among 2010 National RTVU Multimedia Teaching Material Design; and Preliminary Study on Distance Fine Arts Education was published by University Education, Vol. 2, 2010.
In 2011, the CAI courseware for Sketch won the "Excellent" prize from the Higher Education Liberal Art Group of the Eleventh National Multimedia Courseware Competition held by the Education Management Information Centre, Ministry of Education; the CAI courseware for Traditional Chinese Painting Scenery won the "Excellent" prize from the Higher Education Liberal Art Group of the Eleventh National Multimedia Courseware Competition held by Education Management Information Centre, Ministry of Education; the courseware for Beauty of Chinese Characters won third prize from the Primary School Group of the Eleventh National Multimedia Courseware Competition of “Xue Zhi Wang Bei” (Internet Learning Cup) held by the Education Management Information Centre, Ministry of Education; the courseware for A Course of Liming Calligraphy won the first prize (first place) of the Senior High School Group of the Eleventh National Multimedia Courseware Competition of “Xue Zhi Wang Bei” (Internet Learning Cup) held by the Education Management Information Centre, Ministry of Education; the courseware for A Course of Liming Calligraphy won the Best Technology Realization Award of the Senior High School Group of the Eleventh National Multimedia Courseware Competition of “Xue Zhi Wang Bei” (Internet Learning Cup) held by the Education Management Information Centre, Ministry of Education; the TV educational film Freehand Brushwork of Small Flowers and Birds was awarded "Exquisite Course" by Shanghai Jiao Tong University; his paper Design and Application of Multimedia Arts Courseware was published in Distance Teaching in China Educational Technology, Vol. 6, 2011; the paper Preliminary Study on Distance Arts Education was published in China University Teaching, Vol. 2, 2011; the paper Early Paul Gauguin was published in World Art, Vol. 2, 2011.
In 2012, the PAD application version of Freehand Brushwork of Small Flowers and Birds won the special prize of the Higher Education Group of the Sixteenth National Multimedia Education Software Competition; Sketch won the first prize of the Higher Education Group of the Sixteenth National Multimedia Education Software Competition; his works Dance on Mountain Top and others were published in Space, Vol. 12, 2012.
In 2013, his individual picture album The Magic Divine Comedy ---- A Collection of Tang Yingshan’s Works 2009-2012, was published by People’s Fine Arts Publishing House and exhibited on the Interwoven (Group) in Soka Art Centre.
